23 years ago (man I feel old saying that) when I started my photography business I could hardly be regarded as a photographer. ?Not only was I a creative mind, I was a dreamer…and did I mention I was only 15 years old?! ?Being a hard headed teenager, I was determined to make money with my new found passion – without the help of other creative minds or business owners. ?As you can imagine, I had some hard knocks, and learned?that making a good living with this was really hard. ?I fought for years, and ?even strayed from my course, and then I finally started seeking education in my field. ?What I learned was that as a photographer I had to be an expert at many things. ?I had to become an expert at my craft, an expert marketer, an expert book keeper, an expert designer and web builder, and of course I had to be an expert people person. ?This barely puts a dent in all of the things we as photographers have to be an expert in. ?It was overwhelming to say the least.

I always thought if I could just afford a better camera, or a new computer, I could be a better photographer. ?Then, one day I realized that there is more being great than just the equipment I used. Everything I did, every aspect of my business model was basically taking stabs in the dark. I took time to learn about how to value myself and my work, how to effectively price my products, and where my ?moneymakers? really were. ?This changed my business – practically overnight.
